Two people were seriously injured in a collision involving more than 30 vehicles on the M20 near Maidstone, Kent

Late Saturday evening, emergency services responded to a large-scale traffic accident on the London-bound side of the M20 motorway between junctions eight and nine near Hollingbourne, Maidstone. The collision, which involved over 30 vehicles, led to serious injuries for two individuals and several other drivers sustaining less severe injuries.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service reported that eleven people received care at the scene, with two requiring hospital transport. Among those seriously injured, one was taken to a local hospital in Kent, while the other was transported to a hospital in London. The exact conditions of the injured were not disclosed.

Emergency Response and Road Closures

Response teams included an air ambulance crew, three fire engines, and a specialized technical rescue unit. The thick fog at the time was confirmed by National Highways, a factor likely contributing to the multi-vehicle pileup. Both directions of the motorway were closed early Sunday as recovery and clearance efforts continued, with officials indicating the closure may last several hours into the night.

Authorities Seek Public Assistance

Kent Police have appealed to the public for any information or dashcam footage relating to the incident to assist in their ongoing investigation. While some drivers involved sustained injuries not considered serious, authorities have emphasized the severity of the crash and the disruption it has caused on this major route.
