The Hulk has a surprisingly emotional storyline in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Marvel fans are finding it pretty upsetting.

In the new film, which is out now in the UK, Peter Parker seeks Bruce Banner’s help when his arachnid DNA begins to overwhelm him. It turns out Bruce wears an inhibitor on his wrist that controls the gamma radiation in his blood, and Peter uses it to build his own device that can suppress his powers.
But, Jean Grey – played by Sadie Sink – uses her mind control powers to make the Hulk fight Spidey, and, in the process, Bruce’s inhibitor device breaks. That means that, for the first time in a very long time, Bruce transforms into his out of control, rage-fueled Hulk persona. When he eventually comes to, all Bruce wants to know is if he hurt anyone.
“Bruce Banner’s subplot in this movie is heartbreaking, he’s just repeating ‘Did I hurt anyone’ over and over again last we saw him,” says one fan on Reddit.
“Considering he was like almost 10 years clean of the Hulk in the timeline must be really awful for him,” says someone else.
“Dude just wants to teach some physics,” says another fan – Peter finds Bruce teaching college classes.
“Although given how he ended up, is that how they’re nerfing him for Doomsday?” theorizes another fan. We last see Bruce being taken away in an ambulance. Mark Ruffalo is not set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, so it would make sense if this is why he’s sitting out the film.
