Disneyland Quietly Raises Food Prices Ahead of Expected Ticket Increase

Disneyland just raised the prices on hundreds of food items across the resort, resulting in hundreds of items receiving a price increase. The levels of these price increases varied depending on the item, but some items received a price hike as high as 23%.

This resort-wide price increase on food items is also an indicator that another major price increase is on the way, based on historical trends. Disneyland Begins Wave of Price Increases

Disneyland traditionally raises its food and beverage prices in the summer, with last year’s Disneyland food increase also happening in July. This summer price adjustment to food and beverage items is often followed by a broader Disneyland price increase in the fall. This annual price increase historically has raised ticket prices, Magic Key pass prices, and other admission products like Lightning Lane Multi Pass and parking, often happening in October.

Last year, the Disneyland ticket price increase happened on October 8 and took effect immediately. The increase affected Disneyland tickets, Park Hopper add-ons, Magic Key passes, and standard parking. Disneyland does not announce ticket price increases in advance, but the annual food and beverage price hike has become a reliable indicator that the resort’s fall admission price increase is coming as planned. Here’s a look at the ticket price increases over the past decade for the 1-day ticket prices.

This summer’s food price increase impacted 178 dining locations across both theme parks and the resort hotels, with an average rate of increase of about 8% or about $0.62 per item. The increases varied, with some items receiving an increase of only 1.5% while some items increased as much as 23%. While the largest percentage increases impacted select restaurant menu items, many of the most commonly ordered snacks and beverages, like churros, popcorn, bottled drinks, and Mickey beignets, received noticeable price hikes that most guests will encounter during a typical park day. Note that an earlier version of this story included that a menu item went up 44% in cost. That increase has now been reduced on the Disneyland menu page and is detailed below.

Let’s get into all the data of these food and beverage price hikes, with some of these price increases impacting some of the most popular food items at Disneyland.

Disneyland Raises Prices on Hundreds of Food Items

The items that theme park fans order the most, including churros, popcorn, beignets, ice cream, soda, and bottled water, were included in these price increases and will likely have the most impact on the average guest at Disneyland.

Snack prices increased in nearly every category. This includes arguably some of the most popular snacks, with the classic churro, popcorn, and caramel popcorn each increasing by $0.50, representing price hikes of roughly 7% to 9%. Dessert items saw even larger price hikes, with vanilla soft serve and the classic funnel cake both increasing by $0.70, while chocolate chip cookies rose by $0.70. Pizza slices were also impacted, with a slice of cheese pizza climbing by $1.00, an 11.8% increase

The Mickey beignets experienced one of the largest percentage increases at $1.00 for a three-pack, coming to about a 15.4% increase.

The price increase in beverages, bakery & desserts, and souvenir cups all followed a pretty distinct pattern. Bakery items and desserts, representing 93 menu items, increased by approximately $0.50 to $1.20, an average increase of about 9%. Cocktails and bar drinks, which accounted for 63 items, generally increased by $1 to $2 per drink, or about 5%. Souvenir sippers and tumblers, totaling 55 items, also rose by $1 to $2 each.

Bottled sodas and waters, representing 206 items, saw relatively modest increases, with most prices rising by about $0.25, or roughly 5%. Coffee and other hot beverages experienced some of the largest percentage increases, with 188 items increasing by approximately $0.70 to $0.75 each, averaging around 13%.

If we look at some of Disneyland’s most popular grab-and-go snacks, including beverages, many of these items now cost between 8% and 15% more than before.

Beyond beverages and snack carts, there were also price increases on hundreds of Disneyland restaurant menu items, with quick-service locations being hit the hardest.

Across 117 quick-service food items, the typical increase was about $1 per item. One bigger price hike included the Wedge Salad, which increased 23% from $11.99 to $14.79.

An earlier version of this story stated that the Butter Croissant rose 25% and that the Bean & Cheese Burrito rose 44%. While those price increases were made on the website at the time that we pulled this price increase data, the prices have since been changed again to be lowered. It appears that those increases were made in error. There is now no increase on the Bean & Cheese Burrito and the Butter Croissant went up from $4.79 to $5.49.

Generally, there are now higher prices on many of the everyday meals in the theme parks, impacting items like burritos, sandwiches, pizza pockets, quesadillas, chili and mac and cheese bread bowls, breakfast items, chicken sandwiches, salads, and specialty entrées, with most increasing between about 5% and 10%.

While many of these individual price increases for food items amount to $1, this will quickly add up for families purchasing meals throughout the day, especially when factoring in the increase to beverage prices as well.

Disneyland acknowledged the need to maintain lower prices on food for families during a recent media business update. We spoke with then Disneyland President Thomas Mazloum. He has since been promoted to run all of the Disney theme park division. At the time he emphasized Disneyland’s focus on attracting young families.

He highlighted the new kids meal for $5.99 that is available near the new Bluey experience at Disneyland. The meal includes a mini all-beef hot dog, Cutie orange, and milk or water for $5.99. The meal is available at Troubadour Tavern. As of this publish, the meal did not go up in price with this price increase. Disneyland confirmed to Mickey Visit that no kids meals across the resort increased in price as part of the menu changes today.
