Algeria announced Saturday that a German citizen kidnapped by an armed group in Niger about two weeks ago has been safely recovered and is now in Algerian military custody. According to a statement from Algeria’s Defense Ministry conveyed through the official news agency, the German national was taken into the care of the Algerian army’s security services on Friday.
The captured individual was transported by a special flight from Guezzam in southern Algeria to the Boufarik military base near the capital, Algiers. The Defense Ministry reported that he is in good health and will be handed over to German authorities at a later time. No information was provided regarding the circumstances of his liberation.
The German Foreign Ministry acknowledged awareness of the incident but declined to comment on the situation, emphasizing a policy of not publicly discussing cases involving the abduction of German citizens abroad.
