Rory McIlroy is tied for the lead heading into the weekend at the Genesis Scottish Open.

Meanwhile, McIlroy’s playing partners, Robert MacIntyre and Chris Gotterup, are sitting two shots adrift of the lead.

The weather has been magnificent in North Berwick this week, and that has led to fairly benign conditions out on the golf course.

Rory McIlroy and his Ryder Cup teammate Robert MacIntyre took advantage of that during the first two rounds of the Genesis Scottish Open, as did Chris Gotterup.

The fans are behind MacIntyre more so than McIlroy at the Scottish Open this week, and rightly so.

The 29-year-old Scot is the local hero after all.

Rory McIlroy comments on playing with Robert MacIntyre at the Scottish Open

McIlroy has been a joy to watch on the links in Scotland this week.

The same can be said for MacIntyre, with both players feeding off each other and, indeed, the atmosphere created by the crowds.

Yeah. Chris got off to a great start, as did I. Bob got off to a bit of a slow start but started to heat up around the turn. It’s nice when you have a group playing well together, the Northern Irishman said.

Bob obviously had the home contingent cheering for him pretty hard. Great to play with him, and Bob is up there this weekend, which is great.

McIlroy will be in the second-to-last group on Saturday alongside another of his Ryder Cup teammates, Matt Fitzpatrick.

Rory McIlroy’s stats through two rounds of the Scottish Open

McIlroy has been in sensational form with his driver this week, as he almost always is.

The 37-year-old is ranked 1st in strokes gained off the tee through the first two rounds at The Renaissance Club.

He is ranked 11th in strokes gained around the green and 17th in strokes gained putting.

The weakest part of his game this week has been his approach play, and he is ranked 44th after two rounds in that particular category.

Overall, Rory McIlroy is ranked tied 1st in strokes gained total at the Genesis Scottish Open, having gained just over 8.5 strokes on the field.

If he continues that kind of form, he will almost certainly end the week victorious.
