New Las Vegas Raiders veteran cornerback Taron Johnson has been reportedly staying away from the voluntary portion of the offseason workouts because he wants a contract adjustment.
The Raiders acquired Johnson, who is expected to be their primary slot cornerback this season, in a March trade with the Buffalo Bills, who was going to be released if not traded. Now, Johnson is looking for a pay bump.

We recently looked into what Johnson’s stance currently means and asked our community members if they understand Johnson’s approach or do they think he should be participating in the OTAs.
Most of the poll takers believe Johnson should be with the team and not holding out. I get it, but I also think that this is a minor issue for now. If it goes into training camp, that will be another story, though.

If I were in his position, I’d at least show up at the facility. I’d be getting to know my teammates, putting some time in the gym, and just being a good person. I wouldn’t do the OTA’s, or I’d be very selective about what parts I do. At least that means he’s “giving” a little bit, so he can get the credit to get something back.

I feel he’d have better odds if he was in the building. Show up and show why we should. Kubiak and Spytek seem like the type that are more likely to reward commitment. Prove you’re better than the other guys and a deal will get done quickly.

Just pay him. Everyone knows if you trade for a vet with no guaranteed money left on their contract, they are going to want some assurances. This doesn’t mean a raise, its just making his salary for this season and/or next season guaranteed in case of injury. Makes sense to me

IT is highly likely that the future at slot cornerback is not on the roster. THis expectation or belief that every 5th and 6th round prospect is drafted to start isn’t how it actually works. In the late rounds you are hoping for depth and special teams help that can fill in. THe chances of Dalton Johnson or MAasses being a Taron Johnson caliber starter is low. You want a guy out there to help these kids learn how to navigate an NFL system and at least be a mediocre guy.
