PORT ROYAL, S.C. – A drill instructor assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island was found dead at a residence Friday in Port Royal.
According to the Marine Corps, 25-year-old Sgt. Darilyn C. Duong was assigned to the Recruit Training Regiment, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion.
She was from Winnebago, Nebraska, and her awards and decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two awards, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with two awards and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Officials say the cause of death is currently under investigation, and no other information has been released.
“The Marine Corps extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow Marines affected by this loss,” the Marines said.
