There are some items that will always, always be a smart purchase. A classic white shirtdress with a midi length and a smart collar is one of them. Year after year, summer after summer, if you have the perfect shirtdress, it’s something you’ll find yourself bringing out on repeat. It looks great for almost (and we only say almost because it’s not right for a wedding…) every occasion, whether worn with sandals for a relaxed Sunday or with sharper accessories for the office.

Providing evidence of this is Hannah Waddingham, who appeared at Wimbledon over the weekend wearing her take on this eternal staple. Hannah wore a midi-length dress with a flared-out skirt and cuffed elbow-length sleeves, with the collar buttoned right up to the top for a polished look. The waist-cinching detail made the piece super flattering, while large gold hoop earrings, a clutch bag and cat-eye sunglasses completed the look.

The Ted Lasso star held this season’s must-have accessory, too – a patterned handheld fan.

Hannah attended Wimbledon with her boyfriend Nick Beresford-Cleary, a spine surgeon. The pair sat hand in hand for the tennis, having previously had similarly sporty dates at Cheltenham festival and the Grand Prix earlier in the summer. They made their red carpet debut as a couple in early June and have appeared very loved up ever since.

In a May 2026 interview with Women’s Health, Hannah spoke about how ‘lovely’ it’s been to have a new relationship after splitting from her ex Gianluca Cugnetto: ‘I didn’t really have the space mentally or emotionally for that. I’ve hunkered down and focused on my girl and me. Now, I’m ready to stick my head above the parapet a bit more… and it’s really lovely too, obviously, my relationship. But the best thing about it is, firstly, being happy and strong in myself.’

Anyway, back to the dress. We haven’t been able to identify the brand behind Hannah’s, but the good news is that there are loads of similar options on the high street.

First up, Wallis has a white shirtdress made entirely from cotton – the ideal, breathable option for the increased heat that shows no signs of dropping any time soon. Just like Hannah Waddingham’s, it has a mid-length A-line skirt to flatter any figure, along with a removable bow belt to cinch in the waist. A delicate lace trim around the collar and button placket adds interest. Bonus: this particular dress is currently on sale for just £42.

If you’d like a sharper feel and a longer length, Gap’s oversized maxi shirt dress fits the bill perfectly. Both Gwyneth Paltrow and her daughter, Apple Martin, are fans, apparently.

And finally, we love this spin by french label Sézane (which Cat Deeley loves). The large tie at the waist is unexpectedly lovely and, again, it’s made entirely of cotton that will keep you cool in the heat.

Sorelle Dress

Hannah Waddingham has been serving up excellent style at Wimbledon this year, arriving earlier in the week in another all-white – but very different – ensemble. For that day, the actor wore a three-piece white suit by New York label Argent. That outfit had its own matching fan, naturally.
