GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper was in Greenville today, March 23, as part of his Make Stuff Cost Less tour.
Roy Cooper spoke about how rising costs for goods are negatively impacting working-class Americans.
“I’ve talked with several farmers and actually had some roundtables with them,” said Roy Cooper, running for the NC US Senate seat. “They’re telling me that because of these tariffs, their equipment costs and fertilizer costs are skyrocketing. That’s affecting their operations.”
Cooper, who grew up in Nash County and has a background in farming, said many of them are unsure if they will even finish in the black this season. He also spoke about the direct impact the war in Iran has had on oil and gas prices.
“Now, we don’t know how long these prices are going to continue to affect negatively the people,” said Cooper. “We’re hearing that because of this, even if they did something to stop the war now, we would still see extended prices, and that’s tough on working families who already have too much month at the end of the money.”
Cooper is also keeping the younger generation in mind during his campaign.
“We need this generation to understand the importance of organizing and working together and talking,” said recent ECU graduate Isabella Sardina, Co-Chair of Women for Roy Coalition. “Otherwise, what will happen to our future? We are the future.”
