The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday and are heading toward the playoffs with some important momentum behind them.
Several injured players are making their returns to the roster, Mookie Betts is looking like his old self again and the starting rotation has been healthy and effective. But not every sore spot of the season has been solved, and it seems like it will soon be time to cut ties with a disappointing veteran.
Projecting the players who won’t make each playoff contender’s 26-man roster, which is submitted before a team’s first postseason matchup, Chris Landers of FanSided singled out Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto as a looming cut.
“This would’ve been unthinkable a few months ago, when Conforto became what seemed to be one of the sneakier signings of the offseason,” Landers wrote for FanSided. “But now it can’t come soon enough for Dodgers fans: The veteran outfielder has been miserable at the plate all season long, despite Dave Roberts’ faith in his previous track record.”

Conforto signed a one-year, $17 million deal to join the Dodgers this past winter and a move off of the playoff roster would end his tenure with the team in disappointing fashion. But he has slashed just .192/.298/.324 in continued opportunities with the Dodgers and that level of production can’t be carried into the postseason.
“Track record goes out the window in October, though, and with Max Muncy back and Tommy Edman and Hyeseong Kim on the mend as well, there’s no reason to give Conforto any more leash,” Landers added.
With the Dodgers determined to repeat as World Series champions, it seems Conforto’s tenure with the team will end in just a few weeks.
