The speech comes hours after severe Russian drone strikes killed at least two people and injured dozens in Ukraine’s capital, intensifying concerns about civilian safety and regional stability.
The strikes, which targeted critical infrastructure including a petrol station, a business center, and a transport facility, disrupted daily life in Kyiv and underscored the urgency of Zelenskyy’s appeal for international solidarity ahead of potential peace negotiations with Moscow.
Deadly Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv as UN Leaders Convene
On Wednesday morning, Kyiv experienced particularly intense attacks from jet-powered Shahed drones, described as faster and harder to intercept than previous models. The city’s mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, reported two fatalities and 22 injuries, with multiple victims hospitalized. According to the EU ambassador to Kyiv, Katarína Mathernová, the assaults represented ongoing “Russian terror” that severely disrupted work and daily activities at the EU Delegation’s offices.
