Sorana Cirstea claimed her slot in the fourth round of the 2026 French Open with an flawless win over Solana Siera 6-0, 6-0 in the third round.
Cirstea has yet to drop a set in this tournament, in which she has dished out heavy damage on both sides of the ball by winning 80 percent of her first balls and converting 18 of 40 breakpoint chances in three matches.
Xiyu Wang also made a surprise appearance in the round of 16 at Roland Garros after posting a straight-set win (6-2, 7-5) over Yuliia Starodubtseva, the player who eliminated world No.2 Elena Rybakina in the previous round.
Wang, who hasn’t dropped a set in this tourney as well, is winning only 60 percent of her first serves, but she has already created 47 breakpoint chances, converting 31 for a 66 percent breakpoint conversion rate.
Matchup Analysis: Wang won her first and only encounter with Cirstea six years ago at the 2020 Shenzhen Open, taking down the Romanian in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
However, Cirstea will be coming into the match as a hands-down betting favorite after putting on an impeccable show through the first three rounds.
Wang, a career 4-18 against top-20 players, will have to bring out her A-game and more to trounce the world’s No.18 Cirstea.
