Jason Momoa suggests an unfortunate fate for On the Roam.
On the Roam is a travel-documentary style reality television series. The series sees Momoa travel across the United States to meet a wide range of people and their unique jobs. The series first aired on HBO in 2024 and had eight episodes. On the Roam season 2 premieres May 14.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns, Momoa addressed the future of the In the Roam television series. Unfortunately, Momoa answered simply that he thinks “this is probably [their] last season.” He expressed not knowing if the show did well for HBO, despite his clear passion for its subject matter. Check out Momoa’s full quote below:
I think this is probably our last season. I don’t know how well it does for them. So, we’re excited to see. You never kind of know. You do it, and I was excited that we could do the second season. I think what’s probably more challenging is how we [do it], because I got a day job that’s really f—-ng hard to [make this]. This could come out a lot sooner, and they’d probably like that to come out a lot sooner. It just takes a long time, but it’s worth the wait. We try to give it our all. I think the biggest thing that people always ask — I want people to take this away — is everyone in the godd–n world has a passion and a thirst to learn something, and at the same time, something to offer. I think that’s just the beautiful thing of us getting together and sharing what we know, sharing what we love, getting into just talks about, like, look behind you, look at all those great movies [on your shelf] we could talk about. There’s just constant f—-ng [passion in the world] and I just love that. I hope this show inspires people, because there are tons of people in your own neighborhood, let alone your own town, let alone your own city, let alone your own state. And then when you get to go journey around, it’s just sharing and learning. And that’s just what the whole show’s about. But here’s the thing, we’re always going to be on the roam. It’s just a matter if we make a f—-ng show about it, but we hope. [Laughs]
It seems clear that there would be more seasons of On the Roam if it were up to Momoa. He “want[s] people to take this away” that human beings all over the world have “a passion and a thirst to learn something” as well as “something to offer.” The On the Roam team hopes to capture this by introducing audiences to a wide range of real people, all of whom have a story to tell.
On the Roam comes in an era when travel shows are getting some new life again. This is especially true in the celebrity-led travel series, including Conan O’Brien Must Go. While this show takes a more strict comedy approach than the more uplifting On the Roam, it similarly features a celebrity from outside the reality television space as the host.
These shows could gain some critical traction. On the Roam season 1 does not have enough reviews to form a Tomatometer, but it boasts a respectable 78% Popcornmeter score among audiences. Conan O’Brien Must Go has a similarly high 84% Popcornmeter and 88% Tomatometer average across the two seasons.

Momoa is also a very likable figure who has become a beloved actor from projects like Aquaman, Game of Thrones, and more recently in the oh-so-goofy A Minecraft Movie. As a result, his stardom helps boost the viewership for On the Roam.
Even with On the Roam season 3 likely never seeing the light of day, there is still a lot to look forward to in season 2. This second installment promises some high-profile guest subjects, including former Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett. Even if this is one final meandering on the road, On the Roam season 2 will be a good note to end on.
