Most of the top elite names are already qualified to nationals through other methods (2025 worlds team/alternates, Winter Cup, Pan Am selection camp, or American Classic), but several, including Ohashi, still need a score here.

Skye Blakely is slated to compete bars and beam and Leanne Wong is on beam only. Just a typical Friday night Florida start list update. Feels like a late-season away meet where they’re being rested and Skylar Draser and Anya Pilgrim will go in the AA instead.

THE ROAD TO LOS ANGELES GOES THROUGH HARTFORD IF YOU DON’T HAVE MAPS.

Good thing they’re all friends. I was worried they might not be friends. What’s her friendship D score?

Rotation 1

Moreau – FX – DLO, nice amplitude, bounce back – popa is around – FTDT, ever so slightly deep with slide back – switch full, close – double L, heel drops – front loso to double tuck, solid, small bounce. Wolf triple is around, a little wobbly. Switch, back leg down – tour jete 1/2. Good landings overall. 13.250

Caylor – UB – toe full to maloney to pak, clean – van leeuwen, leg break and peels off – and we’re not going to see the end of that routine. Just the fall. Not super surprising as we didn’t see the whole routine put together in podium either and she didn’t do bars at American Classic. 11.900

Rose – VT – y1.5 to her feet, hop to the side, not a lot of amplitude but enough to land it. 13.600

Carey – BB – forward roll mount – wolf double, hit comfortably, a little tight – aerial, check, breaks connection into split and korbut (loses 2 tenths of intended D, one skill combo and one series bonus) – bhs loso, small arm wave check – side aerial, solid – switch to switch 1/2 to straddle, secure, tight on the straddle and switch 1/2 – bhs bhs double tuck, chest pretty far down, step forward, but landed solidly. 12.900

We didn’t see Anzola’s beam but 13.800 is a huge number.

Looking back at Stassi on beam – loso mount, hit, small check – switch side, back leg down, lean forward wobble – side aerial loso attempt and falls, very low on loso – switch to straddle, solid – aerial, hit – full turn, arm correction – double tuck, lunge back

Drusch – UB – clear hip to full to maloney to pak, small pause, hits the combo – van leeuwen, legs together – shortish on next hs – blind to jaeger, solid foot position – DLO, step back. Solid one. 13.350

Richardson – FX – FTDT, hit, slide back – split jump full – whip full through to double tuck, bounces back OOB – tour jete 1/2 to switch full, lands feet under on the rotation, so probably a downgrade – wolf triple is around solidly – front tuck through to double tuck, chest forward with a shuffle forward. 12.800

Anzola’s beam 13.800 leads after the first rotation, followed by Damelio and Rose, who both vaulted.

Love that the meet is sponsored by AARP. The relevance is strong. It’s like back in the day when they were always sponsored by fast food they would be murdered if they ever ate. How does Vanessa Atler eat a Reese’s? Secretly, so that Bela doesn’t find out.

Rotation 2

Anzola – FX – DLO, gets it, a little short with a slide, small leg break – 2.5 to front tuck, small hop – tour jete 1/2 to switch 1/2 to knee – wolf 2.5ish – double tuck, small movement – switch – double pike, chest down but under control. Solid.

Good move to change the switch full to a switch 1/2. Before she was doing the Hezly switch 1/1 to knee-so-that-you-miss-seeing-the-rotation but it was pretty clearly under.

13.300 is also the top floor so far.

Blakely – UB – stalder to Church, hit – Downie to pak, small leg break, good – toe full with a complete straddle but gets it into van leeuwen – toe higgins to double front 1/2, small movement. Hits it. One larger error on the toe full form and not all of her D but a strong one. 14.100

Carey – FX – DLO 1/1, hit, bounce back, keeps it in – FTDT, pretty comfortable, another small bounce – switch – switch full, back leg under – back 1.5 to front full to an afterthought stag jump – tour jete 1/2 – double tuck, bigger bounce back. 13.300

You guys, this is like a quarterback being a quarterback and quarterbacking. Just not like that in any way. But otherwise, quarterback.

Laurie’s like, “These buckets have such bad execution, you guys…”

Rose – UB – weiler 1/2 – maloney to clear hip full to pak, hit with some leg separations – van leeuwen, solid – hits hs on high – tkatchev, lower but fine – short hs on high – DLO 1/1 is hit, some legs at the end and a hop. Overall strong. 13.600

Molomo – VT – hits a y1.5, medium hop forward, gets a big 14.000

Drusch – BB – John has a very interesting interpretation of her name – loso mount, hit – bhs loso loso series, off line and falls – aerial, hit, some knee and foot position – side aerial, lean to the side – switch to switch 1/2, back leg, larger wobble with bend at the hips – side aerial to side position, check – wolf double and she gets wolfed, falls after about 1.5 turns – hits the split jump full from side position well – double pike, down, gets it to her feet with lunge forward

Stassi – FX – does the double double tuck, chest down with step forward – FTDT, chest forward, hop – tour jete 1/2 to switch 1/2 connected to popa to get ready for NCAA composition – back 1.5 to front full, step forward OOB – double tuck, chest down, hop

All floor routines are 13.300.

Caylor – BB – switch mount, solid – bhs loso loso, solid hit, small foot adjustment – split ring jump, bit of execution but secure – side aerial, check, doesn’t connect – switch to switch 1/2, lower back leg and a check – aerial, a bit low but holds well to connect into split and korbut – wolf double, hit – bhs bhs double pike is very very low, lands it face first. 12.100

After 2
Molomo 27.250
Rose 27.200
Anzola 27.100
Esponda 26.800
Damelio/Krob – 26.450

Esponda went 13.750 on beam, and keeping an eye on her because she’s close to the top and still has floor and vault to go.

Rotation 3

Carey – VT – hits a solid DTY, a little steppy on the landing mat with a couple shuffles. 14.300

Blakely – BB – neck roll mount – wolf triple, hit – back tuck full, larger leg up break but keeps it on the beam – fhs + front tuck, little check – punch front pike, hit, little step – switch to switch, pause, no combination to back tuck – aerial to split to bhs, gets the series, small arm correction college cover – double tuck, lunge back. Strong one overall. 14.250 leads the event.

Carey – VT 2 – ro 1/2 on lay/pike 1/2 – hop back – wouldn’t imagine that gets Lopez credit at an FIG meet.

Reese Esponda is getting ghosted by this broadcast but a 13.950 on floor with a 6.0 D.

Rose – BB – switch mount to immediate switch, hit – fhs front tuck, solid – wolf triple, pulls it around – bhs loso loso and falls, was nailing it before that – aerial, check – side aerial, little pause before split and straddle – 2/1 lunge back. 11.750

Ohashi – BB – stoop mount, ditched the switch mount – aerial to split jump to straddle, gets the combo quick enough, wobble after – arabian, deep but hit, step back – bhs loso is nice, good extension – wolf double, pulls it around with a lean – switch to switch 1/2 to bhs, check at the end – side somi, solid – gainer tuck full, hop. Another solid hit. 13.300, not the pace she needed but a good number.

Molomo – UB – weiler to jaeger, solid – a little shy on hs – pak to toe on to van leeuwen, small leg break, short hs on high – giant full – blind to double front, holds the landing. Good hit. 12.950

Wong – BB – switch mount, larger break, leg up – switch to switch 1/2 to straddle, very nice on the makeup series – wolf double, good – side aerial and can’t get the combination, intended to get a loso out of that but hops off, no acro series here – aerial to split to wolf, solid series – side somi, arm wave correction – gainer tuck full, step back.

They’re talking about how these composition changes are wrist related, but they better be permanent because it’s a lot better if she can hit it and can send the switch ring to composition heaven with Simone’s barani.

Now we see Esponda – FX – double double tuck, little shuffle back, stays in – DLO, some pike down, little hop – wolf triple, pulls it around – barani to double tuck, solid landing – tour jete 1/2, leg pretty low – double pike, hop back – straight jump 2/1. Nice.

Anzola Yfull, fairly low off the vault, good distance, lunge back. 13.200

Krob – BB – candle mount is hit – side aerial, keeps arms going into split and straddle – bhs loso loso, keeps it secure, some soft legs – switch to switch 1/2, bigger wobble with a leg up – wolf 2.5 – aerial, hit – bhs bhs double tuck, hop back

After 3
Esponda – 40.750
Carey – 40.500
Anzola – 40.300
Molomo – 40.200
Krob – 39.750

The Prevagen Memorable Moment from the meet is a Katelyn Ohashi floor routine from 7 years ago.

Simone Rose is scratching floor.

Ohashi’s beam score is down to 13.200. We got 13.300 originally.

Ohashi – FX – drops a little early on the Memmel – back 1.5 to front full, solid amplitude, nice twist – wolf double, hit – switch 1/2 to tour jete 1/2 – she’s like what if I didn’t tumble – ro loso – split jump full – double pike, chest a little down but solid control.

13.200 for Ohashi. 26.400 comes up short of the 2-event score but good hits for the composition she had here. 8.4 execution is basically as high as we’ll see.

Molomo – BB – switch mount, solid – wolf double, hit, check – side aerial to loso is hit, arm wave correction – switch – back tuck – solid elements but Cs in isolation – aerial, knee, but connects to split and straddle – double tuck dmt, solid, hop back. 13.700.

Stassi ends up on 52.550, just getting the qualifying score.

Anzola – UB – weiler 1/2, past – stalder full, also pretty late – maloney to stalder to ricna, hit – pak, pretty large straddle – van leeuwen, leg sep again but hit – DLO, hop forward

Esponda – VT – DTY is hit, lands with a stagger, leg cross at the end, little hop. Big day for her.

14.150 and a 54.900 AA score.

“Zoe Miller” Yes John we all wish Zoe Miller were here.

53.900 for Molomo, also a solid result. Anzola finishes 53.100 and also gets the qualifying score.

Carey – UB – toe on to bhardwaj, hit, leg separation – van leeuwen, smae – yezhova with a straddle – maloney to giegner, close catch but gets it – short hs on high – giant full is past – DLO 1/1, little hop. Scrappy but a solid hit. 13.550.

54.050 for Carey and 2nd place.

Fulcher – BB – bhs mount is solid – bhs loso, little tight check – aerial to split, pauses before series – split ring jump, check, some knee position throughout – side aerial, hit – wolf double is smooth – stomach roll – switch, check – resets before switch 1/2 – double tuck is short and falls.

FINAL
1. Esponda – 54.900
2. Carey – 54.050
3. Molomo – 53.900
4. Anzola – 53.100
5. Stassi – 52.550

Big result for Esponda, particularly for floor.

Anzola and Stassi get the AA score for nationals. People who have a score in the 51.550-52.500 zone are on standby if they don’t fill up the 24 spots.

Sliney – BB – nice full turn – bhs loso, check – switch to switch 1/2, little pause before korbut – pretty solid element execution – side aerial, little hesitation before split – aerial, turn to the side wobble – 2/1, gets it to get feet, with some form and a step but saved it

A Classic that happened!

Blakely wins bars and beam, Carey has the top vault, Esponda has the top floor.
