DULUTH — As the seconds trickled down to 4 p.m. on Thursday, hundreds of guests prepared to make their entrance into the Essentia Health Fitness Expo at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

When the doors officially opened, they were greeted by the ringing of the free cowbells from Members Cooperative Credit Union that they could take with them as everyone gets ready to ring in the 50th Grandma’s Marathon weekend.

The two-day expo fills Pioneer Hall and the DECC Arena and features all things racing, with more than 100 vendors and exhibitors, as well as guest speakers, food and more. The expo is also where participants pick up their race packets. With Friday’s William A. Irvin 5K being the first of the three races, early attendees on Thursday packed that part of the venue.

The expo, one of the largest in the nation according to the

Grandma’s Marathon website,

continues on Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is free to attend and open to the public.
