‘Mass casualty incident’ reported at sawmill in Searsmont

SEARSMONT, Maine (WABI) – There is a ‘mass casualty incident’ currently happening in Searsmont, according to Waldo County Dispatch.

A person who answered the phone at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont confirmed to WMTW that there was a situation ongoing at their facility.

Video obtained by WABI shows a large fire at the facility.

The Fire Marshal’s Office says they are responding.

Information is limited at this time.

WABI has a crew headed to the scene.

Gov. Janet Mills made a statement on X Friday: “I have been briefed on the situation unfolding in Searsmont. I urge folks to stay clear of the area, follow the instructions of law enforcement, and allow emergency personnel to respond. I ask Maine people to join me in keeping all those affected in their thoughts.”

According to the World Health Organization, a mass casualty incident is “characterized by a sudden surge in patients that overwhelms the capacity of local medical resources.”
