Roblox has a predator problem
One of the world’s most popular video games for kids has a problem with keeping sexual predators off the platform.

Rumors have been swirling that popular online gaming platform Roblox is shutting down.
Roblox allows users to make a virtual universe and participate in millions of games and interactive environments. Some content is developed by Roblox, but a lot of it is user-generated. The concept was released in September 2006.
Roblox has 111.8 million daily active users and engagement hours of 27.4 billion, according to the company’s second quarter data for 2025.
These rumors seemed to have originated from a fake announcement that was circulating on X on Aug. 18. However, the platform does have multiple potential lawsuits circulating.
Here’s whether Roblox is actually getting banned on Sept. 1 and why the rumors began.
Why is Roblox shutting down?
There were multiple lawsuits alleging that Roblox is not a safe environment for minors. However, these lawsuits have not concluded or resulted in the shutdown of the game.

It is possible that the game could be shut down, but as of August 2025, Roblox remains up and running.
Is Roblox getting banned on Sept. 1?
The rumors about Roblox getting banned on Sept. 1 stemmed from a fake post going around X.
The post looked like an official announcement from Roblox.
“After careful consideration, we have decided to permanently shut down our platform,” the rumored statement said. “This decision comes as a direct response to overwhelming popular demand, alongside growing concerns about safety and security. While this was not an easy choice, we believe it is in the best interest of our community.”
It then ended with, “Effective September 1st, the platform will no longer be available.” It was signed off by “The Roblox Team.”
This fake announcement was posted on Aug. 18 by @RobloxNoobifier, which is a verified account that posts parody content and goes by the name Roblox Notifier. The account included the caption “NEWS: It’s Official! Roblox is Shutting Down On September 1st.
Is Roblox actually shutting down?
There are multiple lawsuits against Roblox. The most significant one comes from the Attorney General of Louisiana, Liz Murrill. A lawsuit was filed in the 21st Judicial District of Louisiana, the suit alleges that the game does not do enough to protect minors.
“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana,” Murrill said. “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.”
Murrill said that every parent should be aware of the dangers of Roblox. She said the online gaming service facilitates the “distribution of child sexual abuse material and the sexual exploitation of Louisiana’s children” and that Roblox fails to implement basic safety controls to protect children from predators.
She cited the lack of an age minimum and the requirement to verify age or parental permissions at sign-up.
Several other attorneys have also mentioned that they will be filing suits. Roblox future may remain uncertain.
