EXCLUSIVE: Big news for Alan Ritchson as his latest movie Motor City makes its North American premiere at TIFF tonight following its world premiere at Venice: The Reacher star will lead Patrick Hughes‘ untitled Amazon MGM Studios movie about NAVY Seal Mike Thornton.  The film falls under Ritchson’s three-picture acting deal with the studio.

The latest Mike Thornton project reps a reunion for the Range-repped Ritchson and Hughes who recently completed Netflix’s feature sci-fi adventure War Machine.

The film will follow NAVY Seal Mike Thornton during the final days of the Vietnam War as he leads a desperate last stand after five men are trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. Outnumbered by an army of 150 soldiers, they fight through relentless enemy fire before making a harrowing retreat into the South China Sea. With both a gravely wounded lieutenant and fellow soldier tied to him, Thornton swims for hours through hostile waters to reach safety, an act of valor that earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Producers on the Mike Thornton project include Sylvester Stallone and his Balboa Productions, Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young, Alan Ritchson’s AllyCat Entertainment, and Alan Rautbort. The script was written by Mark Semos, Alan Ritchson, and Jason Hall (American Sniper; Thank You For Your Service).

Ritchson is currently in production on season four of Reacher, reprising his titular role and continuing his work as EP. The series remains a run-away success for Prime Video – both critically and commercially – with season three becoming the platform’s most-watched returning season, amassing 54.6 million global viewers within its first 19 days. Ritchson also executive produced Motor City in which he stars opposite Shailene Woodley and Ben Foster. He also wrapped production on several high-profile projects including The Runner opposite Owen Wilson, which he also produced; the Amazon MGM action buddy comedy Playdate with Kevin James where he also served as executive producer; and the Amazon MGM holiday family comedy The Man With The Bag opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, which he also produced. Continuing his momentum, Ritchson will reprise his role in the untitled 11th installment of Universal Pictures’ Fast and Furious blockbuster franchise.

Ritchson is represented by WME, Range Media Partners, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox. Hughes is repped by Range.
