Peabo Bryson is currently under medical care after suffering a stroke, according to a statement released by his representatives.
The two-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter is best known for a career that spans decades, including beloved hits such as “Can You Stop the Rain” and “Feel the Fire,” as well as Academy Award-winning duets with Celine Dion and Regina Belle.
A statement shared on behalf of the singer confirmed the news yesterday. “Two-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and balladeer, Peabo Bryson — the voice behind the Oscar-winning Disney songs ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘A Whole New World’ — has suffered a stroke and is currently under medical care,” the statement reads.
“At this time, the family requests privacy as they navigate this deeply personal moment together,” the statement continues. “The thoughts, prayers and love of friends and fans are welcomed and deeply appreciated.”
Bryson has remained one of R&B’s most respected vocalists throughout his career, earning multiple Grammy Awards and chart success across the R&B, pop, and adult contemporary genres. His collaborations and solo recordings have helped establish him as one of the defining balladeers of his generation.
No additional information regarding his condition has been released at this time.
